friday finds.

I got mostly money for my birthday last weekend, and now, all I can do with my spare time is scour the internets for cute clothes to spend said money on. So, what have I found?

Take a looksee...

I have my eye on several things, but my online shopping has been so all over the place that these are the only ones I actually remember...

officially 29.

Yesterday was my 29th birthday. Maybe even my inaugural 29th birthday...I don't know. Only time will tell if next year I'm celebrating the first anniversary of my 29th birthday or if I've fully embraced 30.

Anyway, I had a great birthday weekend.

Saturday we were supposed to have a fun little playdate with some friends, but Jack had a fever and threw up {on me :(} so we canceled it. Boo! Jack was feeling MUCH better by Saturday morning, but we didn't want to chance it. No one like a sick baby.

Most of Saturday was lazy {but we were all dressed in green}. J and I went out to dinner that night. We were turned away from our first choice due to electrical problems, but ended up at a super yummy steak restaurant. Even though we had to sit at the bar {and watch basketball}, I had such a great time! Good food and good company ... not much more you can ask for.

Yesterday was my actual birthday and it was perfectly chill. We went to church and had brunch afterward and I opened presents from all my peeps. Thanks, everyone!

And, last night, after no afternoon nap, the monster slept great!

It was a great way to spend the last year in my twenties. Bring on 30 {i think...}!

randoms.

•So, my tv watching usually takes a definite hit during the summer. But, the one show that I can count on is Big Brother. Not only is it immensely entertaining, but it also comes on three nights a week!

The new season just started about 2 weeks ago, and I'm already hooked. Each season there are twists and the main one for this summer is that 3 "couples" from previous seasons came back on the show to try to win the $500,000 prize. Evel Dick and Daniele, Jeff and Jordan and, the worst of all of them, Brendon and Rachel.

If you like to watch a bunch of Crazies duking it out three nights a week, this is the show for you. The psychological warfare is the best.

Do you watch Big Brother?

•About a month ago we got some geraniums to fill two of the pots on our front porch. I don't have the greenest of thumbs, but I've been able to keep geraniums alive before. This year is apparently the exception. I've tried keeping them more shaded, less shaded, watered more often, watered less often and nothing seems to help. They're dying a slow death.

I've admitted I'm not a skilled gardener, but who can keep anything alive in these temps? And, there's no end in sight.

•The other night, just before I put Jack to bed, we did a little photoshoot. I got the cutest smiling pic of The Bubbs.

I was never a lover of the gummy, toothless smile, but this one just melts my heart. And those dimples!

•Friday was John's 29th birthday. We had a little QT for ourselves and went out to dinner with family. I think he enjoyed the first day of the his last year in his 20s.

Let me tell you the highlight of dinner, though: John, me, his aunt Missy and brother Matt all got puked on. Yep. Happy birthday to you, huh?

We went to the Mont, John's favorite, and were sitting inside instead of melting on the patio. We were all sitting, eating and drinking, minding our own business when some guy couldn't make it to the bathroom in time. I thought he'd spilled a drink, but No. He had had one too many and lost it all right behind me. I was wearing a romper, so I couldn't just change my shirt. John and his brother both got it all on their legs.

It was disgusting, but at least it happened to us. I'm not sure just anyone would be ok with it. The worst part is that the guy puked all over the floor and the entire party (except one) just peaced out. One really nice guy hung back and helped clean up and apologized. But, geez...everyone scurries away without saying a word? Nice.

That's all on the randoms.

I have a baby shower for Jack's future best friend this afternoon and I'm finally going to see Harry Potter part 2 tomorrow afternoon! Should be a nice little weekend.

twenty-eight.

Two weeks ago tomorrow was my 28th birthday, which is really weird. I'm sure everyone who's older than me will roll their eyes when I say this, but last year, when I turned 27, I started not being able to remember how old I was. After 25 and before 30, the numbers just really run together.

Anyway, we were in Houston for a wedding (more on that to come...) and I got to celebrate with John, his parents, my aunt, grandmother and mom! We had a great time having dinner at Backstreet Cafe. My grandmother brought me the most hilarious hat that I wore for probably longer than most people. The picture below is the only one from my birthday but at least you get to see the hat!

I've kept the hat (it's on the hat rack in the nursery) and, I'm really thinking maybe the baby will take a pic or two in it after it's born, or on its birthday. It could be cute.

Cheers to 28 -- it's definitely going to be a great year!

my birthday.

Tuesday is March 1, which means there will be only 17 shopping days left until my birthday.

Now, I know you guys probably have tons of gift ideas up your sleeves, but for all those last minute shoppers, I thought I'd provide a few things I've got my eye on.

These are just a couple ideas. Feel free to think outside the box or to purchase a gift card.

Oh, just another birthday

Yep, another in the long, long line of birthdays. {We lovingly call it the gauntlet -- have I told you that a hundred times, yet?}

Happy birthday to my oldest brother, Jason!

Four years ago, for a milestone birthday {I figure since he doesn't want his picture on here, he might not want his age on here ...}, we went to the Kentucky Derby. My entire family and {then fiance} John all journeyed to Louisville to celebrate Jason and cheer on the horses. It was so much fun. The weather was perfect and the company was even better.

Barbaro won that year, and really we should have known and bet on him. J got a tip from a bartender at our brunch that the winner of the Bluegrass Stakes is often the winner of the Derby, and in 2006, that's exactly what happened.

We didn't bet on Barbaro, but we had ourselves a few mint juleps and a grand ole time. And even though we haven't kept our promise to "go back every year" we have that great memory and keepsake glasses to prove it!

Happy birthday Jas! When are you taking us to the Derby again??

Birthday ... again!

Today is my brother-in-law's birthday. Yep, we're right smack dab in the middle of the birthday gauntlet!

Happy Birthday Matt (Vic) from me, John, Gus and Lily! We're excited to celebrate tonight!

Happy Birthday Gracie

With only about an hour and a half left, I have to say Happy Birthday to my Mother-in-Law, Gracie.

Gracie is on the left {duh...}

Wish I could have been there to celebrate!

35 Years Young

Today is Gus' birthday. He turns 5 and I cannot believe that we've had him in our family for that long! I remember going to the breeder's house and just wanting to "look" at puppies.

Gus was the smallest of all the puppies and all of his brothers would crawl all over him to get to us, but he would stay in the back and let them have all of the attention. He was {and still is} the most handsome of all the boys, and we were immediately drawn to him.

The breeder told us that if he was going to keep any of the puppies, he would have chosen Gus. We took him out of the pin and put him in the grass for the first time -- and he's LOOOVED grass ever since!

Gus has definitely kept us on our toes for the last five years -- "running away", chewing on Lily's blanket, getting trash out of the trash can, getting into the trashcan and so many other hilarious things. We love to come home to he and Lily because they're always happy to see us!

Happy 5th {35th} birthday Gus!!

How can you resist those eyes?!

Poor guy almost lost a claw!

Gus' summer 'do -- I thnk we'll give him a mohawk again this summer!

Random Thursday

• Do you read The Pioneer Woman's blog? She always has the best looking food on there. I've only ever made a couple of things that she's posted {stuffed mushrooms -- they were a hit!, and quesadillas -- I think she made shrimp, we made chicken}. The recipe I want to try the most is her macaroni and cheese. I am a sucker for mac & cheese. Anytime I see it on a menu, it's automatically one of my sides, or a first course, or desert, or my main meal, or all of the above.

Have you tried it? Or any of her other recipes?

• It's my birthday, which means I have birthday money. I already have a little bit of it earmarked for something I want for our bedroom.

See, I have these nasty {not really, but since I'm now 27 and I've had them since I was 19 or 20, I consider them nasty} plastic drawers that I keep my socks, underthings, pajamas, etc in. While I love that I've had them since living in the sorority house, I think it's time to move up to some grownup furniture.

I found this bookcase on target.com and I've loved it for months. My plan is to use the drawer on the bottom for said underthings and hopefully socks {if they'll fit} and then get some baskets for one or two of the lower shelves. Thus, eliminating the need for my nasty plastic drawers.

• Do you watch Young and the Restless? I've watched this soap for a really long time, but I recently {about a year ago} got back in to it and I DVR it every day. Can I tell you that it's getting gooood! If you don't know anything or don't care about this at all ... you can move on, but if you care, keep reading.

Adam, Victor's son, is in the midst of his life falling apart. All of Genoa City is figuring out all of his lies and misdeeds and he's finally having to answer some questions. And, finally, Sharon and Nick are figuring out that their baby is alive! I hate everything Adam did to all these people, but at the same time I feel bad for him. He loves Sharon, and I think he really wants to do good by her.

Anyway, I know it's a little crazy to be so into this show, but I can't help myself. It's really good, and I can't wait to see what happens with Adam next. And, when will Nick and Sharon figure out that Ashley's baby is actually their baby {conveniently named Faith, also}?

• Word on the street is that after this nice weather we're having this week, we'll be back to cold snaps and more "active" weather. Yes! {not.} I can handle rain -- in fact, I like a rainy day ... when I get to be at home. But if rainy weather comes along with colder temperatures, I'm not really going to be a fan. But, I do like the fact that rain is a sign that Spring is on the way!

What I really want is warm weather, and beers on a patio -- preferably on a day when I don't have to work. Thanks!

• I'm only a little over a week away from my first ever half-marathon. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I'll be running with some friends, and hopefully when we get to the hills {my nemesis ...} they can encourage me and push me through. I'm using my great 10-miler as inspiration for 13.1!!

Eight great years

Our precious Lilbug turns 8 today {thats 56 in human years}.

Even though she's bravely battling cancer and pretty much blind in at least one eye and partially blind in the other, she loves life and couldn't be a better dog. She loves her kibble and any occasion that calls for {too many} treats.

We tried to find a bakery to buy her a cupcake or something, but with minimal time, we hit up PetsMart for some cookies {that she loved!}.

Here are a couple pics of our girl:

You've seen this one before, but I love it!

She's soo pretty!

Bundled up!

She always makes us laugh. She is obsessed with licking things -- arms, legs, her arms/legs, feet, knees, faces, you name it, she'll try to lick it. Occasionally, when she's really excited, Lily will jump and spin. She's like an acrobat! She doesn't particularly like toys, but everytime we put treats in Gus' toy, she's on pins and needles to clean the floor of the treat debris.

We love Lily and are so glad she became a part of our family two and a half years ago!

Feb. 3

Like I mentioned last month, January through May we are bombarded with a veritable gauntlet of birthdays.

Today just so happens to be my father in law's birthday!

In his favorite sweatshirt. Pretty much all of his leisure clothing is OU-related

At work on a Wednesday (probably)

Happy Birthday John D!

We have plans to celebrate with family and enjoy dinner at the place of his choosing. And, I got him a hilariously true birthday card. Can't wait to see him read it!

Just wait a few more weeks, and we'll be on birthday #4!
