Last Friday, we had a very good Montgomery family friend come in town. He has been best friends with John's dad since forever (I don't know the actual time frame, so forever sounds about right ...). If you are at all in tune with college football you might recognize the face. If not, just know he's a really great guy and a true Sooner fan.

Bill is from the same small town in western Oklahoma that John D. is from and that's how they know each other and where their friendship flourished.

When we made it over to John's parent's house, Bill was beyond excited to meet the newest Montgomery. He took him from my arms and really didn't want to let him go! They liked each other from the get go!

I wish Bill's wife Nicki could have made it to see Jack, but definitely next time!

Friday night the Dragons hosted Lexington (their rival) and before the game a civic organization in town hosted a pancake supper. We all went and enjoyed pancakes and bacon. I remember going to the same pancake supper last year knowing I was pregnant, but no one knew! Ha ... what a difference a year makes!

Jack and I didn't make it out to the football game. He was pretty tired and getting a little fussy, so we went home to bed. 

But, I'm so glad Bill was able to meet Jack and I look forward to many more pictures like this in the future!

road trip.

A couple weekends ago, we braved the open road with our 3 month old. I had low expectations as to how Jack would handle 6ish hours in his car seat on the drive to Austin and how he would handle sleeping in a pack in play for three nights. But, I have to say, he did great!

With most of the house packed up, we hit the road for Austin Thursday morning, after Jack's morning feeding. We were on the road for about an hour, and had to stop again to feed him, change him and give a little attention before strapping him back in his car seat.

Then, we made it to about an hour outside of Austin before we had to stop again. We stopped at a Sonic, which was perfect. We all had some lunch, Jack got a diaper change and some play time and we were back on the road again.

We didn't hear a peep from the backseat until we were about 30 minutes from my parents' house.

Jack was a great nighttime sleeper in Austin, too. We did our usual bedtime routine and he went to sleep around 715 most nights, and would usually wake up for a few minutes and then put himself back to sleep until I woke him up for his 9 p.m. feeding. Then, the first night, he woke up and cried for about 10 minutes around 415. The second night he woke up and cried for a few minutes around 5 am. And then the last night, he slept through the night, without a noticeable peep!

In addition to being the best baby ever, Jack finally got to meet Mia! My grandmother made the trek to Oklahoma for my shower in March, but hadn't gotten to meet her newest great-grandson, yet.

Mia came over Friday afternoon and got some Jack time, and we took a four generation picture!

With the craziness of Jack's schedule and his lack of naps, but increased fussiness, it was tough to really get out and see anyone. But, Kelly and Stephanie, two of my best friends, were able to stop by my parent's house to meet him, but I didn't get a picture of their meetings. But, Kelly will be in Oklahoma later this month, and Steph should be in Oklahoma at the end of October!

We had a great time, spending quality time with family and can't wait to take Jack back around Thanksgiving to meet his Uncle (Unkie??) Brian, Aunt Tara and cousins Hunter and Hannah!

The drive back to Oklahoma was really just as great as the drive down. We stopped in Waco and about 45 minutes from home to feed Jack. I'm one proud momma of that little monster (our newest loving nickname for the man)!

My brother (and Jack's birthday twin) visited us last weekend!

Jack and I picked up Jason from the airport just after lunchtime on Friday and went straight to Texadelphia in Bricktown for a cheesesteak and waffle fries. Jack was mostly on his best behavior. We were able to eat without a meltdown and Jason got a little QT with Jack just before we left.

We didn't have much planned for Jason's visit. He just wanted to spend time with his nephew.

John and I cooked dinner on Friday and spent the afternoon at his parent's pool on Saturday. Jack really enjoyed his time with Uncle Jason and can't wait to see him again when we go to Austin in a couple weeks!

Four years ago today I married my best friend and I couldn't be more excited to start our newest adventure {baby M} together.

odds and ends.

So, you guys know that I've been a little less than enthusiastic about sitting down and putting together a coherent blog post lately. Well, here's my attempt at telling you what's been goin' on with me.

• A little over two weeks ago was OU/Texas {has it really been that long??}. And, it was by far one of the more fun times I've had in Dallas the first weekend in October {or third, or second ... but you get the idea}. Not only did my Sooners pull out the win, but we got to see tons of people and enjoy a little down time -- a rarity on such a crazy weekend.

• In some bad news somewhat connected with OU/Texas, Gus is having eye issues. On Thursday morning {before we hit the road for Dallas} when John was set to take the dogs to the vet, he noticed that Gus' right eye was red and weeping. So, he took him to the vet immediately. We called later and they said he'd be just fine. John picked up the pugs on Monday morning, and Gus had some eye drops we had to give him and we scheduled another appointment for Friday. Cue Friday -- the vet didn't like what he saw, which really freaked me out. We made an appointment with a veterinary opthamalogist {yep, they exist} for Monday and were sent home with several more drops and a salve to keep his eye lubricated. On Monday we met with the opthamalogist and she didn't seem as concerned. She gave us ANOTHER drop and an antibiotic and we're going back to see her tomorrow. The worst part about it is that some of the drops really sting and it breaks my heart to see him all squinty. :(

• Last weekend we drove to Tulsa for a wedding. The groom was one of J's pledge brothers, and we got to see tons of people we haven't seen in years! It was a beautiful wedding. And, the couple was off to Maui for their honeymoon {where we went almost four years ago} and I couldn't be more jealous. The weather there is great this time of year {and really, is there a bad time of year?}.

• This weekend we had some friends come in town for the OU game against Iowa State. It was their first football game in Norman since before they had their little girl, and we're glad they chose to stay with us again. And, my parents made the trek to Norman again -- a long and very tedious drive, but I'm so glad I got to see them!

•Today is my Mom's birthday! Happy birthday Mom, I'm glad you were in town this weekend so we could do a little celebrating together!

• And, last but certainly not least. I have a little news to share with my bloggy buddies: I'm pregnant. I was 11 weeks yesterday and have my second doctor's appointment this Thursday when we hope to hear our baby's heartbeat and maybe see the first glimpse of our newest family member! And, ps, if I haven't told you in person and you're having to find this out on the blog -- I'm so sorry! It's been so tough to keep the news in and I've been trying my best to tell everyone I can before doing any kind of announcement!

I'm sure you guys have been not at all worried wondering where I disappeared to, huh?

I can assure you, I'm fine, just busy and not at all finding time in the evenings to blog. Sorry!

Last weekend we had tons of family in town for a big football game against Florida State {thankfully we looked tons better than our season opener}. My brother {in Denver}, his father in law, his brother in law, my parents, my other brother {in Austin}, my aunt and uncle and cousin were all in Norman for a mini reunion of sorts. Although they were pretty much all here from Thursday to Sunday, I still didn't feel like we had enough time together!

Not only did we have tons of family in town, we also had a couple of friends staying out our house for the game. Needless to say, we were torn in many different directions -- always stressful, but it was beyond nice to have everyone together for something other than a holiday.

Then, my brother {in Austin} and my dad came back up for the Air Force game this weekend {too bad we looked more like the team that played Utah State, than the one that showed up against Florida State...}.

So, life has been super busy, but definitely good.

Hopefully I'll be back more frequently this week!

We had the best time in Denver with my brother, sister-in-law and niece and nephew. It's been awhile since we'd spent a lot of time with a toddler and a 4 year old, but wow, by the time we got back to Oklahoma, we were exhausted! Kudos to B & T for putting up with those two, because they are nonstop! But I can safely say, we loved every minute of it.

On Saturday we loaded up the car {4 adults and two carseats...} and headed to downtown Denver. We had breakfast at Sam's 3 and then after hearing requests for it all through the meal, we walked toward the mall area and rode a MallRide bus. We even made it to Hard Rock Cafe so J could get a Denver guitar pin to add to his {dorky} collection. After that we went to the historic and gorgeous Brown Palace. That hotel is out of a different era. It's so retro and classic. I'd love to stay there sometime.

After our downtown adventure we loaded back into the car {again, 4 adults and two carseats} and headed back south to B&Ts house. When we got back, we played with the kids some and then it was naptime! Ha...now I realize why every parent loves naptime so much. The quiet was welcome!

After nap, we went to the neighborhood park/pool where one of our nephew's friends was having a birthday party. The rain came and went and by the time we made it, we skipped the pool and played on the swings and ran around on the playground equipment. Hannah stayed on the swings 98% of the time we were there and she insisted that J push her on the swing. She wouldn't have it any other way.

We had dinner at B&Ts that night {kabobs, mac&cheese and artichokes} and then we just hung out and played with the kids. 

I know both J and I had a great time. I really wish that they all lived closer so we could see them way more often. But, I guess, for now, we'll have to really enjoy the times that we get to spend with them and make a better effort of going out to Denver to see them {and them coming to see us!}. 

But, honestly, they need to move closer.

Oh, just another birthday

Yep, another in the long, long line of birthdays. {We lovingly call it the gauntlet -- have I told you that a hundred times, yet?}

Happy birthday to my oldest brother, Jason!

Four years ago, for a milestone birthday {I figure since he doesn't want his picture on here, he might not want his age on here ...}, we went to the Kentucky Derby. My entire family and {then fiance} John all journeyed to Louisville to celebrate Jason and cheer on the horses. It was so much fun. The weather was perfect and the company was even better.

Barbaro won that year, and really we should have known and bet on him. J got a tip from a bartender at our brunch that the winner of the Bluegrass Stakes is often the winner of the Derby, and in 2006, that's exactly what happened.

We didn't bet on Barbaro, but we had ourselves a few mint juleps and a grand ole time. And even though we haven't kept our promise to "go back every year" we have that great memory and keepsake glasses to prove it!
