what's up wednesday [thursday edition].

Another edition of What's up Wednesday Thursday! Who's excited??

• This past weekend we had several guests in our house. Thursday night alone we had 7 people + 2 dogs! But, I had a great time, and I know Jack loved getting to see his cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. It's never enough time for all of us to be together ... Christmas can't come soon enough!

Cute cousins! This was after an almost face plant into some rocks.

• It's rained here the last two nights and though we've had hints of fall, the afternoon temps are still in the 90s. But, don't tell that to my wardrobe because I've been rockin' boots and scarves for weeks. Maybe my clothes will usher fall in a little sooner than later?

• My Etsy shop is officially ready for launch! More details coming soon!

• Have you guys seen the TOMS flats?? I have a pair of TOMS that I just don't wear that often, but those flats ... they look awesome! I think they'd be perfect for a football game ... the cuteness and style of a flat with [hopefully] more comfort and support. Thanks to my obsession of all things animal print/leopard, I have my eye on these.

• Thanks to being a slacker yesterday, we're one day closer to the weekend!

Happy Thursday, y'all!

flip flops.

John's grandparents, Fufi and Popi, got Jack some flip flops for his birthday. They're size 5, so they're a little big ... which means we haven't gotten as much use out of them this summer as was expected.

The first time I tried them on Jack he cried and cried and cried because he didn't like something between his toes. But, today was a different story.

After a particularly messy peanut butter lunch, I had stripped Jack down to his diaper and a t shirt. I don't know why I grabbed them, but I got his flops out of the drawer and tried them on him. Once they were on his feet, he loved them! He was running around and when one would fall off, he'd sit right back down to have me put it back on.

Hilarious and definitely something I want remember.

{and, yes, that's a blackish eye ... i don't think the kid has gone a day without some kind of bruise since the day he started walking}

what's up wednesday.

Another Wednesday, another edition of What's Up ...

• The OK State fair is going on right now. Unfortunately it only lasts for 10 days and I just don't think we'll make it this year. I wanted to go this evening, but with family coming to town tomorrow and staying through Sunday, I have too many things to pick up/take care of. Next year ...

• Jack and I went to the zoo with my BFF/ his Godmother last weekend {expect a post on that soon!}. First of all, Jack slept until 8 am that morning -- a very welcome change, but not something I think will happen more than one time. And second, we spent 4 hours at the zoo and saw pretty much all of the animals. On the way home I could barely keep my eyes open and ended up taking an hour and half nap.

• My half-marathon training has officially commenced. I ran only 1.5 miles on Monday and 3 this morning. I'm trying not to put too much pressure on myself -- if I don't make it through all of the training and end up doing the relay, there's nothing wrong with that.

• My Etsy store is coming right along. I've put together 4 holiday card options and hope to have a few more soon. And, honestly, I just need to open that thing up ... people need to start making purchases!

• I mentioned that we have family coming to town starting tomorrow. We'll have one of my brothers, his wife and their two crazy kids with us Thursday night. And then, they'll go to a hotel for Friday and Saturday, but my other brother will be staying with us those nights. Should be busy but very fun.

• Who's watching Real Housewives of New York? Who thinks Aviva needs to look at herself on this St. Barths deal? I do. I mean, I realize Ramona totally overreacted {when does she NOT overreact?}, but seriously, Aviva walked in and all she wanted was for everyone to fawn all over her for making it through the plane flights with her husband. Please... a few minutes of "praise" is enough and then move on to what was supposed to be a girls' trip. And, what's wrong with cutting loose on vacation? Nothing. It's vacation!

And, here's a sneak peek at Jack at the zoo:

{this was right before he ran, tripped and scuffed/bruised his little cheek}

one day.

The days are long, but the years are short.

Oh, the day will come when Jack will fit in those shoes. And that day is probably coming sooner than I want to admit. Sigh...

Tennessee road trip (part 2).

After our night in Memphis, we were back on the road headed East to Shelbyville/Farmington, TN to see John's family's old homestead/farmhouse/cemetery and meet his distance relative.

Instead of taking boring I40 we decided to take some back roads to check out the scenery. Though it took longer to get there, the little towns were all super cute (kind of Stars Hollow-ish for all my fellow Gilmore Girls lovers) and we got to see things we woudn't have.

We spent most of the afternoon with Sarah and her husband Dennis -- they couldn't have been nicer. Sarah had a scrapbook of sorts that had tons of pictures and information on John's family.

The family farmhouse is no longer in the family. After Sarah's mother, Robert (yep, a man's name ... there's a story there), passed away about 5-7 years ago she and her sister figured out they didn't have the money for upkeep and had to sell it. Sarah said that one of the biggest chicken farmers in all of TN bought it.

Palmetto Cemetery -- the Montgomerys came from South Caroline originally and named their farm and family cemetery after the SC state tree.

The cemetery also has other non-Montgomerys in there. The Montgomerys are on the right when you walk in and others are on the left.

Sarah and Dennis' house. This was the Dysart's house -- their daughter Susan married R.S.

We had such a great time looking at pictures and hearing old stories of the Montgomerys. We definitely plan to go back!

Jack: 16 months

At 16 months Jack:

• is all over the place. There's no such thing as sitting still and its very apparent where's he been by the "debris trail" he leaves behind :)
• had a serious growth spurt around the beginning of this month. Literally one night his 12 mo jammies still fit and the next night there was no way they would zip. We've moved up to 18 mo ones and he's starting to outgrow them now...
• has a major love for "Boomer Sooner". If we play it he jumps, claps and laughs uncontrollably. He looks around to make sure everyone else is clapping too. And when it's over, he gets upset if we don't play it again. Oh the brainwashing!
• has had his 4th haircut.
• calls all animals and other objects dog (DA!)
• loves making phone calls on speakerphone. He talks and runs around and, just like Boomer Sooner, when the call is over, he gets upset and wants to call someone else.
• loves puzzles.
• is a HITTER. Ugh! Talk about super frustrating. This is one of the worst things and nothing I do has changed this behavior. When he's upset or frustrated he runs over to me (it's almost always me) and hits me. I've been hit on he leg, on the arm, in the face ... it's beyond irritating. If anyone has some insight on how to handle hitting, I'm open to all suggestions.
• is running everywhere. He loves to run and loves to jump and he's alllll boy!
• is a good eater. He's picky but will eat what he likes really well. But, he's started throwing his food on the floor and it's not just when he's frustrated or finished, he's just throwing it on the floor. Boo. He's also getting better with a spoon. He can dip the spoon in the food (usually yogurt) and get it in his mouth. But, don't be fooled, he's still REALLY messy and tends to give up on the spoon and just put his whole hand in there.

All in all the 16th month has been fun. He continues to be a good sleeper (down around 7 and up around 7) (knock on wood). We've had a few nights with wake ups but I think it's his teeth. He's been chewing on his hands for weeks with no end in sight. I really wish those incisors would push on through.

And, though we can't always understand him, Jack is a talker. He repeats a lot of things and has several words that he says on a regular basis (mama, dada, dog, gus, yeah, moo, eye, truck, Jack, more, ball, all done, toodles -- thanks Mickey Mouse Clubhouse). And, he loves to point at things and try to tell us what it is. When you ask him where Mama/Dada/Grams/Uncle Matt are he can point to them all. He gets confused between Grams and Gramps (they sound so similar) and therefore thinks we're saying Gramps both times.

16 month stats:
•probably about 25 lbs (no official stats this month)
•LOVES: bananas, peanut butter throwing/"catching"/chasing balls, blowing bubbles in the water, "Goodnight Moon", running everywhere, all phones and all things that he can use like a phone
•DISLIKES: having his nose wiped, not getting what he wants (usually a phone)
•mostly 12-18 month clothes, size 4 shoe (but not for much longer)
•size 4 diaper, size 5 at night

what's up wednesday.

I'm so terrible about blogging lately!

I've been doing a little more design work, so I'm on the computer all day and then I'm on toddler duty in the evening and by the time Jack is in bed and we've had dinner, the last thing I want to do is camp out on the computer and blog. Sorry folks.

Anyway, even though the blog doesn't show it, we've had our hands full.

• Starting next week I'll be training for my second half marathon. I'm up to 3 miles
{even though I barely made it through 2 this morning ...} and hope to start increasing my miles. I'm not signed up just yet, but the one I'm shooting for is the White Rock Half in Dallas December 9.

• Last night Jack was on a tear! Ugh, that boy was soo dang fussy and he was HITTING me over and over again. And, when I tried to discipline him, he still did it. And, when I tried ignoring it, he still did it. I don't think he took much of a nap at daycare yesterday, so I'm going to blame his behavior on exhaustion. I don't enjoy nights like that.

• My parents were in town last weekend for OU's home opener. We played Florida A&M. The Sooners looked better than than they did their first game, but not by much. I'm not so sure we deserve our current #5 ranking. But, it was really great to have my parents in town and I know they enjoyed spending time with their favorite little monster.

• Speaking of the home game last weekend, we had a heck of a time finding a babysitter. I had gotten in touch with the girl who babysat Jack last year during fb season, and she was on board to do it again. But, then Thursday she texted me that she had forgotten that her nephew's birthday was Saturday night. Ugh ... cue panic! I tried texting another girl we know who's always chomping at the bit to babysit Jack and after several failed text attempts, we figured out that she had softball Saturday and there was no telling when she'd be finished. So, I had an epiphany -- there's a super cute girl at Jack's daycare, Sydney, who would be great! So, I asked and she agreed. When she showed up on Saturday, Jack practically jumped out of my mom's arms and ran to Sydney. I'd say he likes her.

• I'm working feverishly on an Etsy site. Really, it's ready to open, but there are just a few things I want to do and then I can pull the trigger and open that puppy up. In the meantime, go to my Facebook page and check out some of my designs. And, please don't hesitate to hire me :)

And, just because blogs are so much more fun with pictures, here are a couple recent designs and a pic or two of Jack.

Little Man birthday invite {I also did coordinating banners -- "Happy Birthday" and "I Am One" -- and 2" circles to be used on cupcakes and party cups}

Shabby Western baby shower invite

My loves on Labor Day weekend. We didn't have a swim diaper, but he went in anyway. Right after this, Jack pooped. We cleaned him up and then he went skinny dipping. Ha!

Jack climbed in the ottoman.
