making a statement.

I love me some Gossip Girl and last Monday many of the characters were rocking one of my favorite jewelry looks: the statement necklace.

belly business -- 26 weeks

How far along: 26 weeks
Size of the baby: cucumber (14 inches long, 2 lbs.)
Total weight gain/loss:  official weight gain from the doctor -- 8 pounds (I haven't weighed myself since then and I don't really want to, to be honest)
Maternity clothes: I'm now rocking mostly maternity clothes. I can still fit into most of my non-maternity tops, but the pants are All Maternity, All the Time.
Cravings: sweets
Symptoms: I really can't complain!
Movement: Lots of movement. I definitely notice a jump in movement after I've eaten something sugary.
Gender predictions: I've had people tell me they are convinced I'm having a girl and people convinced I'm having a boy. J's great grandmother (who turned 100 right before Thanksgiving) is certain it's a girl and apparently she called all 3 of one of her granddaughter's kids.

Not too much of note to mention for this week.

J and I picked up the nursery furniture on Friday and I'm hoping to at least put those boxes in the room very soon (as a sign that we're finally making progress in the nursery). And we braved the crowds (and interesting people) to finish our registry at Babies R Us yesterday. I feel good about getting that done, but now I'm anxious to get the Target one started and finished.

My lunch date on Thursday was great! I was so thankful to get truthful information that wasn't completely terrifying! I realize it's going to be tough and that there will be moments when I might break down (who am I kidding, might?), but I'm thankful to know that I'm not the only one. My friend also suggested a book that I went out and got and am reading now. Reading this book makes me more anxious to meet our babe and figure out what kind baby it's going to be!

Just a couple more weeks in the second trimester, then we really are in the home stretch. Crazy!

Oh, and my apologies for no week 25 pic, but I was being lazy. There will be a week 26 pic.

belly business -- 25 weeks

How far along: 25 weeks
Size of the baby: eggplant (9 inches long, 1.7 lbs.) -- I think I put this last week, and now that I'm looking at it again, I think I was wrong. I don't know what the baby was last week, but now it's the size of an eggplant. Hope I didn't mess anyone up ... who am I kidding, no one cares about this but me! LOL
Cravings: I was craving creamy pasta for a while (check that one off my list, thank you NY Pizza) and after every.single.meal I want something sweet. Today I finally curbed my need for candy with grapes. One step at a time, people.
Symptoms: I really can't complain!
Movement: Lots of movement. I definitely notice a jump in movement after I've eaten something sugary. And, in the middle of the night last night, I think the baby had the hiccups.
Gender predictions: I've had people tell me they are convinced I'm having a girl and people convinced I'm having a boy. J's great grandmother (who turned 100 right before Thanksgiving) is certain it's a girl and apparently she called all 3 of one of her granddaughter's kids.

Things are going very well for me. I've really started to pop and I get questions about when I'm due much more frequently now.

It's starting get a little old just sleeping on my side at night. I sneak in a little sleeping on my back here and there, but I probably won't be able to do that for much longer.

Ooooh. So, I saw a sorority sister this past weekend at my friend's engagement party. She had a baby back in October (I think) and, as general chit chat, I asked how all that was going, etc. And, as I think it is for most new parents, she kind of had diarrhea of the mouth. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm very interested to hear about becoming a parent (hello, that's me in like 3 months), but I don't want to be scared. And, to be honest, she scared me just a little. I'm sure everything will work out as it's supposed to, but wow...I have a few more worries now!

That's all for now. Pic of the bubbala coming soon!

i'm busy (aren't we all?).

Last night I transferred what was left on my current to do list to a new to do list with several more items added to the list. And, inevitably, that stressed me out.

I really feel like I have been busier than I've ever been since August. I've always had work to do and several other things on my plate, but I feel run ragged. I'm sure you've noticed something was up with my lack of blogging. I sit at a computer all day, so the last thing I want to do at night is sit down and come up with something interesting to post -- I have ideas, it's the actual job of putting it all together that I don't want to take on.

I've been looking ahead at the coming months in my planner, and that just stresses me out even more. There's almost a week left in January and I'm worried about making time for everything I have going on in February. And, just to be a glutton for punishment, the month of March is even crazier -- I have something going on every weekend (and I'll be well into my third trimester).

I really enjoy doing design work on the side (Texadelphia stuff and now, I'll be working on an email invite for a Chi O senior night in OKC), but it's gotten to the point where I get a little frazzed when someone wants something from me. I don't want to feel like that because I want more projects to help improve my skills and creativity. Maybe when I have the Texadelphia list all checked off I can move on and think about other design projects. Fingers crossed!

And, do I even have to mention the stress I get when thinking about being ready for this baby to come? I'm going to lunch with a girlfriend on Thursday because I need to be able to talk baby and not feel bad for monopolizing the conversation. She's currently pregnant with her second and she's bringing her adorable 1.5 year old to lunch. Better get used to kiddos being around!

I'm pretty excited to finally get to ask questions and get advice from someone who doesn't mind talking babies. Not that others mind necessarily, but I don't want to make conversations all about me and my baby when I'm sure my other friends want to talk about what's going on in their lives and not the impending birth of my first child.

The nursery furniture is ordered (I think I told you guys that last week?) but, the big question is, where are we going to put it. The room is not at all ready for furniture. So, now I feel pressure to get all the stuff out of the room. But, when do I have time to really get in there and get stuff out? Ugh...vicious cycle!

I've told J that this weekend is officially "baby weekend." I want to get a large chunk of stuff out of the nursery (see the above point), rework a closet so that the important stuff can be easily accessible when it's moved. And, I want to finish our baby registry at Babies R Us and (hopefully) do our registry at Target. Wooo...that sounds like a lot. I'm not sure how much stuff J can handle, so if we get the first two items checked off my list I'll feel very accomplished!

Ok, just had to get it all out there. I'm busy, but so is everyone else. It's just that sometimes I don't really deal well with having so much to do. Just ask J ...

randoms.

I've promised myself (and secretly you guys) to do at least one more mostly non-pregnancy-related post before my newest belly business post this weekend. You're welcome!

• One of my pet peeves is when people put apostrophes at the end of proper names to make them plural. Just remember, an apostrophe implies posession, not plural. For example, J and I are the Montgomerys, not the Montgomery's. I have other grammatical pet peeves, but this one bugs me more than most others.

• I've always loved online shopping, but now that I'm pregnant, I feel like it's not even worth scouring my favorite sites. Sometimes I'll forget and check them anyway, causing a bit of sadness and longing to be able to dress my pre-baby body. But, on the upside, I've taken to scouring sites for their maternity clothing. Too bad I'm way too frugal to spend any large sum of money on maternity clothes.

• It's the weekend!! J and I have an engagement party tomorrow night and this is my first time to dress up the bump. I've had other reasons to dress up since finding out I'm pregnant, but I have yet to put something dressy over my expanding belly. Luckily one of my besties is a shopping guru and found a cute (and cheap) maternity dress on clearance at Target. Maybe I'll post a pic of dressed up, preggo Emily. Maybe.

• J and I ordered the nursery furniture last night! So crazy and maybe a bit premature seeing as we still have a large amount of work to do before the room is crib/changing table-ready. But, the crib was on closeout and both pieces of furniture have been on sale since well before Christmas and we didn't want to miss out on the great prices! And, no fear, there will definitely be pics of the nursery, but those are a ways off as of now.

• Speaking of the nursery (wow, I just remembered that this was supposed to be a non-pregnancy-related post...whoops!), now that the bedding is ordered I've been on the lookout for other things to make that room complete. Below are three things I'd love to get for the room:

Fabulous Owl Lamp
I kind of want to get this and then spray paint it yellow...or find a yellow lampshade.

I can see this in the nursery to house books, baskets with diapers or whatever we need to store, etc. We have a bookcase in there now that I planned on leaving in there, but I'm kind of starting to lean toward this. Luckily, J really likes it too!

And this fabric (the far left one!) So cute and I really would have loved it as curtains or roman shades, but seeing as it's $75/yard, I don't think it's going to happen. I don't even think I could pay that much for one yard for a cute pillow. Sigh.

Ok, this ends my attempt at a neutral, non-baby blog post. Sorry I didn't really succeed. Maybe next time ... Have a fab weekend peoples!

belly business -- 24 weeks

How far along: 24 weeks
Size of the baby: eggplant (9 inches long, 1.7 lbs.)
Total weight gain/loss:  official weight gain from the doctor -- 8 pounds
Maternity clothes: Oh yeah! My mom came in town this weekend and was so generous! I had $100 to A Pea in the Pod, so we spent some time in there and I got a pair of leggings, some yoga pants, corduroys and skinny jeans and 3 tops. I'm well on my way!
Cravings: sweets! What usually happens is someone mentions something or I see a commercial on tv and I have to have whatever it is right then.
Symptoms: I've only had one bout of indigestion, other than that, I'm feelin' good.
Movement: Baby M loves to really move around in the evenings when I'm laying in bed watching tv. I think it really loves doing that just as much as I do!
Gender predictions: I've had people tell me they are convinced I'm having a girl and people convinced I'm having a boy. J's great grandmother (who turned 100 right before Thanksgiving) is certain it's a girl and apparently she called all 3 of one of her granddaughter's kids.

My most recent doctor's appointment was this past Thursday and everything was as it should be. Heartbeat was 140 bpm and I have to do the glucose test next time. (Please take a moment to hope and pray I do not have gestational diabetes -- I like sweets way too much!)

And, now, here's this week's crappy picture!

making progress.

J is in Houston for the weekend, bachelor-partyin' it up. With a whole weekend to myself and a mom who's been chomping at the bit to help with anything baby related, I invited her up to try to make a dent in the room that will eventually become the baby's nursery.

I didn't take a before pic (the clutter in that tiny room wasn't for the faint of heart), but my mom and I tackled what we could (pics coming very soon).

It's not completely cleaned out, but we got rid of a bunch of stuff and have things moved around so that we know what's in there and can make definitive decisions on where the stuff is going to go. It's tough to put things in boxes and move them out of that room, knowing they'll be less accessible, but I guess I can sleep well knowing that I didn't really utilize my easy access to those things before.

And, upon the advice of my mom, I think I'm going to set a date that I want the room cleaned out by, so we can finally order the furniture and start to really turn it into a nursery. As of tomorrow, I'll be 24 weeks (crazy -- post coming tomorrow), which means I have just 16 weeks left. And, if you think of that time in 4-week-long months, I only have 4 months to go. CRAZY!

belly business -- 23 weeks

How far along: 23 weeks as of Sunday
Size of the baby: ear of corn (8.5" and 1.5 lbs)
Total weight gain/loss:  I've definitely started gaining. I weighed this morning and I'm up about 7 pounds.
Maternity clothes: Bought maternity jeans (still need a pair of skinnies) and I got a few other maternity items for Christmas. I'm hoping to find some must-haves at A Pea in the Pod so I can use the gift card I got for Christmas.
Cravings: no regular cravings.

I have another doctor's appointment this week (doesn't it seem like I go to the doctor all.the.time?). I think this is the week I'll be doing the Glucose test for Gestational Diabetes. But I'm hoping that since it wasn't mentioned at the last appointment, I'm off the hook this time.

J has a bachelor party in Houston this weekend, so my mom is coming up. She's been itching to help out wherever she can and I thought it was perfect timing. My goal is to get a good portion of the soon-t0-be nursery boxed up and much more crib/changing table/baby ready!

I'm really kinda bummed I didn't get a 21 or 22 week picture (more for my own memories than for you guys ... haha!) so here's 23 weeks! I really think I'm starting to pop now! (Remember my friend who's due just 3 days before me? Yeah, she's so much bigger than me! I know I shouldn't compare, but it's hard not to when we're so close in due dates!)

(as usual, it's a pretty terrible pic, but I can't believe I look this big!)

belly business -- 21 & 22 weeks

So, I was a super slacker last week. Below are my 21 and 22 week posts. I'm 22 weeks today!

How far along: 21 weeks as of Sunday
Size of the baby: spaghetti squash
Total weight gain/loss: as of my last appointment I've gained about 4 pounds
Maternity clothes: still no maternity clothes, but the time to get them is really creeping up on me, but I've put it off as long as possible.
Cravings: all the bad things -- salty fried food and sweets and caffeine-free Dr. Pepper -
Symptoms: not much indigestion lately (thank goodness)
Movement: lots of movement!
Gender predictions: I've had people tell me they are convinced I'm having a girl and people convinced I'm having a boy. J's great grandmother (who turned 100 right before Thanksgiving) is certain it's a girl and apparently she called all 3 of one of her granddaughter's kids.

How far along: 22 weeks as of Sunday
Size of the baby: papaya
Total weight gain/loss: as of my last appointment I've gained about 5 pounds (I think I'm creeping up on the big weight gain part of all this...)
Maternity clothes: you'll be happy to know I purchased my first pair of maternity jeans this past week! And my family was super generous and I got a few cardigans for Christmas. And, a gift card to A Pea in the Pod -- ooo, can't wait!
Cravings: all the bad things -- salty fried food and sweets and caffeine-free Dr. Pepper -
Symptoms: I kind of think I had a few Braxton Hicks this past week. On Wednesday I was doing more standing than usual and that night I was feeling mild cramps that would come and go. I've also had a little back aching.
Movement: Baby M seems to love the evenings when I lay in bed and watch tv (a child after my own heart!).
Gender predictions: We had an ultrasound right before Christmas and although we told the lady that we didn't want to know, and she turned the monitor when she was checking that area out, John noticed on one of the pictures a little indicator that baby M might be a boy! But, keep in mind, this is his first time reading an ultrasound. Ha!

I'm so lazy these days, as far as belly pics are concerned. If I remember to do it when I'm dressed for the day, it's no big deal, but if I'm already in my PJs, like now, I'd rather wait until you can see the bump a little better. So, keep an eye out for a pic tomorrow!
