what's up wednesday.

It's been a while since I've done a "What's Up Wednesday" and this time around, it'll be sans pictures in fear of getting that stupid message again that I've reached my storage capacity!

Here we go ...

• My mind has been set on design auto-pilot lately. It seems like all I think about these days are the designs I'm doing for others, getting my design site up and running and working on my Etsy shop. But! I really have to remember that I've had tons of success with "custom" sales and commercial work.  I shouldn't put all my eggs in Etys's basket ... it's not the end-all.

One of my friends opened her store not too long ago and she's having TONS of success (check out her blog and store!)! Go Jennie!!

• In the same vein ... I finally ordered my Christmas cards! I've had the design done for more than a week, but I just hadn't pulled the trigger!

• J is going to Boston with his brother for 4 days next week. While I know he'll have tons of fun [they're going to the Patriots game on Sunday], I'm jealous that he's getting to go on a fun trip and I'm nervous [that's not really the word I'm looking for, but I can't think of a better one...] that I'll be home with The Monster solo. I've done it before, but he's so much more mobile and opinionated these days :) That means all meals, all baths and all bedtime routines are all mine! Should be fun [and exhausting]! I told I get a Mexican vacation in return for "letting" him go.

• Y'all. I'm running a marathon relay this weekend. My original intent was to run the half. Well, that didn't happen. So we "settled" for the relay.  Thank goodness we did because I've been more than terrible about keeping up my running, so I'm pretty unsure of what my 5.8 miles will look like on Sunday morning. I know one thing for certain, though: I'll be enjoying a mimosa once it's all over. Mmmm ... that'll probably be the best mimosa I've ever tasted!

• Oh Christmas shopping. I've started ... but I'm nowhere near finished. Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have my brother and his family all taken care of so I can get their gifts wrapped and in the mail asap! Luckily I have ideas for pretty much everyone. But J has to be the hardest person to shop for. Everything he wants is either super expensive or something I can't really buy him as a surprise.

• I think one of my New Year's resolutions is going to be to cut back on my tv. I really watch wayyyy too much of it. And most shows are totally mindless. I'd like to get back to reading more [book suggestions would be appreciated!] and maybe even do a devotional [suggestions on your favorites here, too!].

Ok, friends. Have a fab Wednesday!

moving.

The ole blog is on the move. I'm working on a new site and hope to have it [probably as a work in progress] up soon.

Until then ... check out my Etsy shop. Right now, with coupon code MERRY15, I'm giving 15% off all orders. Pick out a Christmas card! Or, stationery is always a nice gift. If you don't find exactly what you're looking for, send me a conversation or email at divinemrsem [at] gmail.com and I can whip something up!

help!

First of all, I fully realize that we're on the the downhill slide to December and that now Halloween AND Thanksgiving have passed. But, I'm determined to catch up ... so bear with me!

But, when I sat down to finally knock out a post ... BOOM! Blogger tells me I'm at capacity on storage. Ugh! Is upgrading my storage the only option? Please, please, please help me!! I'm mostly blog illiterate and don't know what my options are!

Thanks friends ... hopefully I'll be back in business asap!

Jack: 18 months

[this may be my first time since Jack's first month that I've actually posted a monthly update on time!]

Jack:

• is so much more of a little boy than a baby. He follows commands, answers occasional questions, makes some of his own decisions and is repeating more and more of what we say.
• loves to play outside. Now that we've had the time change, we have less time outside after work/daycare, but we do what we can.
• has 2 more teeth, bringing his total to 14. I'm kind of worried after my last dentist appointment that his top two canines won't come in. [i'm missing three wisdom teeth and one of my baby teeth never came out/doesn't have a permanent tooth underneath. And, missing teeth is congenital ...]
• is starting to take to stuffed animals. We have an OU sock monkey and all of a sudden, one day he wanted it and would hug it. And it's the most adorable thing. EVER!
• knows several body parts: belly button, eye, nose, ears, mouth
• went through a few weeks of what I believe was an 18 month sleep regression. All of a sudden he was waking up in the evenings and the middle of the night. And, as soon as I went in the room he calmed down and went back to sleep. The last few nights he's been off the night wakings but up early in the morning
• likes: stacking blocks, carrying his horse and cow around, throwing balls, football, sweeping, Boomer Sooner, the OU chant, books, Talking Tom app, dancing, walking around in our shoes, seeing football on tv
• took a trip to the pumpkin patch [blog post on this coming soon!]
• new words: football (ba-ba!!), truck (guck), car, more, mine, go, duck, bye
• was a lumber"jack" for Halloween [post on this coming soon, also!]
• was a ringbearer in John's cousin's wedding on Saturday and he ROCKED it! I was way impressed and beyond proud of Jack. Plus ... he was the cutest guy in a tux.

18 month stats:
•official height and weight stats coming next week when we go to the doctor
•LOVES: bananas, Sprout sqeezable pouches, yogurt, Talking Tom app, stacking blocks, dancing and jumping, milk, walking around in our shoes, "brushing his teeth" [aka sucking/chewing/playing with the toothbrush]
•DISLIKES: all veggies, not getting what he wants, brushing his teeth
•mostly 18 month and 18-24 month clothes, size 5 shoe
•size 4 diaper, size 5 at night

covered in yogurt and watching the OU chant over and over and over at the rehearsal dinner

pumpkin painting.

Whew! Maybe no one noticed but I took a little break from the ole blog. Things were getting all too hectic and just the thought of putting a post together overwhelmed me. But! I'm back ... and I have lots of pictures and stories that need posting.

__________

About a week before Halloween all of the school-aged kids at Jack's daycare took a field trip to a pumpkin patch and they brought pumpkins back for everyone to paint.

The day they painted them our favorite daycare worker [and babysitter], Sydney, sent me two pictures of Jack.

Check out his concentration [and the pumpkin envy on the kid covered in blue paint]!

our proud pumpkin painter!

... and the final product. I'm so dang proud!

More Halloween fun to come!

yesterday.

Yesterday John and I celebrated out 6th anniversary! After a sucky Sooner loss and John's terrible allergy attack it wasn't a super exciting. But, we snuck off for a late lunch and quick trip to Bed Bath and Beyond. Yep, we're domestic. I can't believe it's been 6 years ... crazy how time flies!

TOP this year at OU/texas // BOTTOM LEFT our first date 10 years ago at Hooties and Harleys [I was so nervouse people would think i actually picked him at a biker bar ... ha!] // BOTTOM RIGHT cutting the cake on our wedding night

Jack: 17 months.

At this point, we're just weeks shy of having a child that's one and a half. Nuts!

Jack was in his high chair the other day and I just started thinking about how he'll be 2 1/2 next year at Halloween and soon enough [too soon, honestly] he'll be 6 1/2 and he'll be a little boy and not my baby anymore :(. It's just so crazy how time flies, especially when you really sit down to think about everything that's happened in such a short time.

Anyway ... onward.

Jack:

• is jumping all.the.time. If he's not running, he's jumping.
• had about a week of not so good reports from school. From climbing on tables to pushing other kids out of the way. That was tough to hear...
• had a rough go with more teething. It seemed like he was in pain, but the teeth didn't show up. Until ... the very end of the month when his two bottom incisors popped through.
• had lots of family in town for the OU vs. Kansas State time. At one point, we had 7 people and 2 dogs in our tiny little house. That night Jack pretty much refused a bath. We threw him in, rinsed him off, washed his hair and he was out again in about 5 minutes.
• had a zoo date with me and Auntie B. I'm looking forward to many more zoo trips in the future. I can't wait until he's pointing and saying all of the animals' names!
• can point to people when you ask where they are. "Where's mama?" he points at me. "Where's dada?" he points to John. It's fun!
• is getting better and better at stacking blocks. [always working on those fine motor skills :)]
• repeating things constantly. He knows hot and cold [and which one is which when he feels something].
• is able to catch larger objects. One night John was tossing an empty 7-Up bottle to him and he caught it just about every time!
• is loving daycare. There's a newer lady there who has been doing lots of fun painting activities with his class. He comes with home with new artwork at least 3 times a week. The lady said that he gets upset with it's not his turn to paint. Do we have a budding artist??
• ended this month with pink eye and an ear infection. Thank goodness he got on some Amoxicillan because I can hardly handle a sick little monster.

17 month stats:
•probably about 25 lbs (no official stats this month)
•LOVES: bananas, peanut butter throwing/"catching"/chasing balls, Itsy Bitsy app on his phone [my old iphone], "Goodnight Moon", running everywhere, all phones and all things that he can use like a phone, jumping, Boomer Sooner [his favorite song], puzzles, sweeping/the broom/the vaccum, bathtime, sliding at the playground
•DISLIKES: coming inside, not getting what he wants (usually a phone)
•mostly 12-18 month clothes, size 5 shoe
•size 4 diaper, size 5 at night

what's up wednesday.

It's that time again.

• Today is my mom's birthday! Happy birthday Mom!!

Thanks to Darci for reminding me how perfect RedStamp is, I sent my mom this little gem this morning.

• We're going through the almost nightly throw-ups again with Jack. He got over his pink eye and ear infection (and gave them to me...), but now he's got more drainage than your average 17 month old and it's causing him to throw up. Usually at night. Usually all over everything. But after that, he's fine and sleeps the rest of the night. We're off the milk and back on the Zyrtec, so hopefully it'll take effect soon.

• Last weekend was OU/Texas. I missed last year ... but we made it happen this year. And, thank goodness! Seeing that game in person was one I want to remember! It's not often that the Longhorns are half gone by halftime...nuts! I had no expectations on the outcome of that game but I was pleasantly surprised.

• Jack is 17 months and I really need to do his monthly post before I forget everything ... or try to lump it into his 18 month post!

• And, finally, like I mentioned in my previous post, the Divine Mrs. Ems' Etsy store is now open! Digital files are $18, or $18 + printing (if you don't want to print yourself), or! you can get a custom design for $40 + printing. Shop away, friends!

instaupdate. [last weekend + this week]

Last weekend was super rainy [loved it!], but all of our planned activities went off without a hitch!
Friday Night Lights [the J man's first high school football game this season!] // John and I played wedding photographers last weekend, and this is one of my favorites of the photos so far // John's cousin is getting married in a month and our little monster is going to be the cutest ring bearer! // a little rainy day coloring

gorgeous "just because" flowers from my main squeeze // playground fun Tuesday night // a restless almost 17 month old at the doctor // moving announcement sneaky peek

Wednesday afternoon Jack's daycare called and said he had a 103 fever and just wasn't his usual ornery self. I picked him and he was just miserable. None of slept well Wednesday night and he had a high fever most of Thursday. We got in to see the doctor this morning and he has pink eye and a minor ear infection. We've started amoxicillin and hope to be on the road to recovery soon!

OKC Zoo.

A few weekends ago, Beth, my best gal and Jack's Godmother, made our way to the Oklahoma City zoo. We had the best time!

Attempting to handle the monster.

precious!

This was just before running, tripping and scratching his face. He loved the giraffe and was repeating "giraffe" when I said it.

At the petting zoo -- he only had eyes for the goats.

He finally worked up the courage to pet the goat.

We had a great time and we both came home and took a long nap!

Tennessee road trip (part 3).

On our final leg of our road trip, we hit the road for a quick 1 hour drive through what I consider foothills to Lynchburg, home of Jack Daniels.

After another winding drive on two-lane highways, we made it to the distillery around 10 am. Our timing was perfect. The distillery hadn't filled up yet, we got a great parking place and got right into a tour group!

After a short 5 minute wait, we were on our way!

inside the Visitor's center

Jack Daniels makes their own barrels. That's wood that has been cut down and fired and ready to be made into barrels

One of the 7 Barrel houses that Jack Daniels has

The freshwater spring that Jack Daniels has used to make their whiskey since the beginning.

Sculpture of Jack Daniels -- it's not to scale. Jack was just 5'2" (the sculpture is 5'8") and he wore a size  7 shoe (this shoes a size 10)

The safe in Jack Daniels' original office.

We're goin' in! (no pictures allowed inside)

Lynchburg town square.

It's a super cute town that's ... wait for it ... in a dry county. Yes. Jack Daniels has always been in Lynchburg and they don't have the voters to overturn prohibition.

The tour of the distillery was super cool. It was about an hour and a half and we saw just about everything -- Jack's original office, trucks dropping off grain, moonshine, the mellowing process, one of the barrel houses and bottling and labeling. Even though we weren't able to taste the whiskey, it was really so fun. I highly recommend winding your way to Lynchburg, TN.

what's up wednesday [thursday edition].

Another edition of What's up Wednesday Thursday! Who's excited??

• This past weekend we had several guests in our house. Thursday night alone we had 7 people + 2 dogs! But, I had a great time, and I know Jack loved getting to see his cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. It's never enough time for all of us to be together ... Christmas can't come soon enough!

Cute cousins! This was after an almost face plant into some rocks.

• It's rained here the last two nights and though we've had hints of fall, the afternoon temps are still in the 90s. But, don't tell that to my wardrobe because I've been rockin' boots and scarves for weeks. Maybe my clothes will usher fall in a little sooner than later?

• My Etsy shop is officially ready for launch! More details coming soon!

• Have you guys seen the TOMS flats?? I have a pair of TOMS that I just don't wear that often, but those flats ... they look awesome! I think they'd be perfect for a football game ... the cuteness and style of a flat with [hopefully] more comfort and support. Thanks to my obsession of all things animal print/leopard, I have my eye on these.

• Thanks to being a slacker yesterday, we're one day closer to the weekend!

Happy Thursday, y'all!

flip flops.

John's grandparents, Fufi and Popi, got Jack some flip flops for his birthday. They're size 5, so they're a little big ... which means we haven't gotten as much use out of them this summer as was expected.

The first time I tried them on Jack he cried and cried and cried because he didn't like something between his toes. But, today was a different story.

After a particularly messy peanut butter lunch, I had stripped Jack down to his diaper and a t shirt. I don't know why I grabbed them, but I got his flops out of the drawer and tried them on him. Once they were on his feet, he loved them! He was running around and when one would fall off, he'd sit right back down to have me put it back on.

Hilarious and definitely something I want remember.

{and, yes, that's a blackish eye ... i don't think the kid has gone a day without some kind of bruise since the day he started walking}

what's up wednesday.

Another Wednesday, another edition of What's Up ...

• The OK State fair is going on right now. Unfortunately it only lasts for 10 days and I just don't think we'll make it this year. I wanted to go this evening, but with family coming to town tomorrow and staying through Sunday, I have too many things to pick up/take care of. Next year ...

• Jack and I went to the zoo with my BFF/ his Godmother last weekend {expect a post on that soon!}. First of all, Jack slept until 8 am that morning -- a very welcome change, but not something I think will happen more than one time. And second, we spent 4 hours at the zoo and saw pretty much all of the animals. On the way home I could barely keep my eyes open and ended up taking an hour and half nap.

• My half-marathon training has officially commenced. I ran only 1.5 miles on Monday and 3 this morning. I'm trying not to put too much pressure on myself -- if I don't make it through all of the training and end up doing the relay, there's nothing wrong with that.

• My Etsy store is coming right along. I've put together 4 holiday card options and hope to have a few more soon. And, honestly, I just need to open that thing up ... people need to start making purchases!

• I mentioned that we have family coming to town starting tomorrow. We'll have one of my brothers, his wife and their two crazy kids with us Thursday night. And then, they'll go to a hotel for Friday and Saturday, but my other brother will be staying with us those nights. Should be busy but very fun.

• Who's watching Real Housewives of New York? Who thinks Aviva needs to look at herself on this St. Barths deal? I do. I mean, I realize Ramona totally overreacted {when does she NOT overreact?}, but seriously, Aviva walked in and all she wanted was for everyone to fawn all over her for making it through the plane flights with her husband. Please... a few minutes of "praise" is enough and then move on to what was supposed to be a girls' trip. And, what's wrong with cutting loose on vacation? Nothing. It's vacation!

And, here's a sneak peek at Jack at the zoo:

{this was right before he ran, tripped and scuffed/bruised his little cheek}

one day.

The days are long, but the years are short.

Oh, the day will come when Jack will fit in those shoes. And that day is probably coming sooner than I want to admit. Sigh...

Tennessee road trip (part 2).

After our night in Memphis, we were back on the road headed East to Shelbyville/Farmington, TN to see John's family's old homestead/farmhouse/cemetery and meet his distance relative.

Instead of taking boring I40 we decided to take some back roads to check out the scenery. Though it took longer to get there, the little towns were all super cute (kind of Stars Hollow-ish for all my fellow Gilmore Girls lovers) and we got to see things we woudn't have.

We spent most of the afternoon with Sarah and her husband Dennis -- they couldn't have been nicer. Sarah had a scrapbook of sorts that had tons of pictures and information on John's family.

The family farmhouse is no longer in the family. After Sarah's mother, Robert (yep, a man's name ... there's a story there), passed away about 5-7 years ago she and her sister figured out they didn't have the money for upkeep and had to sell it. Sarah said that one of the biggest chicken farmers in all of TN bought it.

Palmetto Cemetery -- the Montgomerys came from South Caroline originally and named their farm and family cemetery after the SC state tree.

gorgeous original obelisks on R.S. Montgomery's grave

The cemetery also has other non-Montgomerys in there. The Montgomerys are on the right when you walk in and others are on the left.

Sarah and Dennis' house. This was the Dysart's house -- their daughter Susan married R.S.

Sarah and Dennis

We had such a great time looking at pictures and hearing old stories of the Montgomerys. We definitely plan to go back!

Jack: 16 months

At 16 months Jack:

• is all over the place. There's no such thing as sitting still and its very apparent where's he been by the "debris trail" he leaves behind :)
• had a serious growth spurt around the beginning of this month. Literally one night his 12 mo jammies still fit and the next night there was no way they would zip. We've moved up to 18 mo ones and he's starting to outgrow them now...
• has a major love for "Boomer Sooner". If we play it he jumps, claps and laughs uncontrollably. He looks around to make sure everyone else is clapping too. And when it's over, he gets upset if we don't play it again. Oh the brainwashing!
• has had his 4th haircut.
• calls all animals and other objects dog (DA!)
• loves making phone calls on speakerphone. He talks and runs around and, just like Boomer Sooner, when the call is over, he gets upset and wants to call someone else.
• loves puzzles.
• is a HITTER. Ugh! Talk about super frustrating. This is one of the worst things and nothing I do has changed this behavior. When he's upset or frustrated he runs over to me (it's almost always me) and hits me. I've been hit on he leg, on the arm, in the face ... it's beyond irritating. If anyone has some insight on how to handle hitting, I'm open to all suggestions.
• is running everywhere. He loves to run and loves to jump and he's alllll boy!
• is a good eater. He's picky but will eat what he likes really well. But, he's started throwing his food on the floor and it's not just when he's frustrated or finished, he's just throwing it on the floor. Boo. He's also getting better with a spoon. He can dip the spoon in the food (usually yogurt) and get it in his mouth. But, don't be fooled, he's still REALLY messy and tends to give up on the spoon and just put his whole hand in there.

All in all the 16th month has been fun. He continues to be a good sleeper (down around 7 and up around 7) (knock on wood). We've had a few nights with wake ups but I think it's his teeth. He's been chewing on his hands for weeks with no end in sight. I really wish those incisors would push on through.

And, though we can't always understand him, Jack is a talker. He repeats a lot of things and has several words that he says on a regular basis (mama, dada, dog, gus, yeah, moo, eye, truck, Jack, more, ball, all done, toodles -- thanks Mickey Mouse Clubhouse). And, he loves to point at things and try to tell us what it is. When you ask him where Mama/Dada/Grams/Uncle Matt are he can point to them all. He gets confused between Grams and Gramps (they sound so similar) and therefore thinks we're saying Gramps both times.

16 month stats:
•probably about 25 lbs (no official stats this month)
•LOVES: bananas, peanut butter throwing/"catching"/chasing balls, blowing bubbles in the water, "Goodnight Moon", running everywhere, all phones and all things that he can use like a phone
•DISLIKES: having his nose wiped, not getting what he wants (usually a phone)
•mostly 12-18 month clothes, size 4 shoe (but not for much longer)
•size 4 diaper, size 5 at night

what's up wednesday.

I'm so terrible about blogging lately!

I've been doing a little more design work, so I'm on the computer all day and then I'm on toddler duty in the evening and by the time Jack is in bed and we've had dinner, the last thing I want to do is camp out on the computer and blog. Sorry folks.

Anyway, even though the blog doesn't show it, we've had our hands full.

• Starting next week I'll be training for my second half marathon. I'm up to 3 miles
{even though I barely made it through 2 this morning ...} and hope to start increasing my miles. I'm not signed up just yet, but the one I'm shooting for is the White Rock Half in Dallas December 9.

• Last night Jack was on a tear! Ugh, that boy was soo dang fussy and he was HITTING me over and over again. And, when I tried to discipline him, he still did it. And, when I tried ignoring it, he still did it. I don't think he took much of a nap at daycare yesterday, so I'm going to blame his behavior on exhaustion. I don't enjoy nights like that.

• My parents were in town last weekend for OU's home opener. We played Florida A&M. The Sooners looked better than than they did their first game, but not by much. I'm not so sure we deserve our current #5 ranking. But, it was really great to have my parents in town and I know they enjoyed spending time with their favorite little monster.

• Speaking of the home game last weekend, we had a heck of a time finding a babysitter. I had gotten in touch with the girl who babysat Jack last year during fb season, and she was on board to do it again. But, then Thursday she texted me that she had forgotten that her nephew's birthday was Saturday night. Ugh ... cue panic! I tried texting another girl we know who's always chomping at the bit to babysit Jack and after several failed text attempts, we figured out that she had softball Saturday and there was no telling when she'd be finished. So, I had an epiphany -- there's a super cute girl at Jack's daycare, Sydney, who would be great! So, I asked and she agreed. When she showed up on Saturday, Jack practically jumped out of my mom's arms and ran to Sydney. I'd say he likes her.

• I'm working feverishly on an Etsy site. Really, it's ready to open, but there are just a few things I want to do and then I can pull the trigger and open that puppy up. In the meantime, go to my Facebook page and check out some of my designs. And, please don't hesitate to hire me :)

And, just because blogs are so much more fun with pictures, here are a couple recent designs and a pic or two of Jack.

My loves on Labor Day weekend. We didn't have a swim diaper, but he went in anyway. Right after this, Jack pooped. We cleaned him up and then he went skinny dipping. Ha!
