Wow... long time, no blog, huh? No excuses, I've just been lazy!

So, for OU/Texas, we had planned to take Jack to Dallas on Thursday to meet John's grandparents and then to my aunt and uncle's house to stay the night on Friday and during the game on Saturday. However, as we got closer to the weekend, things didn't really work out and I ended up in Oklahoma with the babe and JDM hit the road for Dallas.

I like to tell people that instead of going, I was sharpening my Mom Skills.

Anyway. Thursday night was quiet for us -- business as usual.

On Friday night, we had a dinner date with Sarah and Luke. They, too, had been abandoned stayed home, so it was fun to have a girls (and son) night out! We ate dinner at Cha Cha's and had good girl talk. Sarah is super fun, so you're sure to have a good time when you're with her. And, we're really strengthening the bond of friendship between our boys since they're destined to be BFFs.

Saturday we had big plans. I did Jack's morning bottle as usual, but then I loaded up the car and we hit the road for OKC. We had plans to watch the game and spend the afternoon my BFF and her husband. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a pic of our side by side car seats, but I'm sure you can just imagine the cuteness.

I was super worried that Jack would fall asleep on the 45 minute car ride, thus negating a morning nap, and potentially setting us up for a fussy baby. He did end up falling asleep for the last 15 minutes of the drive and didn't take a very good morning nap. But, he was a perfect little angel ... until, I accidentally got overexcited on the first play of the game and my shrill cheer may have upset him. Whoops! Luckily we were, again, close to nap time. Jack went down pretty easily and took a great afternoon nap!

Oh, and here's a funny little anecdote. So, after I scared Jack with my cheering, for the next 40 minutes or so until his nap, every time something good happened for the Sooners he started crying. The big joke was that he was a Longhorn fan. At one point, I was taking him back to his nap and the Sooners scored or something, and I had to hide his eyes so as to not upset him again. Funny? Maybe not to you, but hilarious at the time.

Though I wasn't in Dallas, at the State Fair drinking beer from a wax paper cup and celebrating a fabulous win with some of my best friends, I was at home with my most favorite little boy, getting some good quality time with some of my other best friends!

It was definitely different than usual, but I wouldn't trade time with my son for anything!

Last Friday, we had a very good Montgomery family friend come in town. He has been best friends with John's dad since forever (I don't know the actual time frame, so forever sounds about right ...). If you are at all in tune with college football you might recognize the face. If not, just know he's a really great guy and a true Sooner fan.

Bill is from the same small town in western Oklahoma that John D. is from and that's how they know each other and where their friendship flourished.

When we made it over to John's parent's house, Bill was beyond excited to meet the newest Montgomery. He took him from my arms and really didn't want to let him go! They liked each other from the get go!

I wish Bill's wife Nicki could have made it to see Jack, but definitely next time!

Friday night the Dragons hosted Lexington (their rival) and before the game a civic organization in town hosted a pancake supper. We all went and enjoyed pancakes and bacon. I remember going to the same pancake supper last year knowing I was pregnant, but no one knew! Ha ... what a difference a year makes!

Jack and I didn't make it out to the football game. He was pretty tired and getting a little fussy, so we went home to bed. 

But, I'm so glad Bill was able to meet Jack and I look forward to many more pictures like this in the future!

College football has finally returned! This Thursday starts the new season and the Sooners kick off Saturday night against Tulsa.

We have our tickets and a babysitter for the Little Monster.

Considering this year was the last for an actual conference championship game, we had to be in attendance. J convinced his parents to order tickets months ago and, thank goodness, the cards fell just right and the Sooners were playing in their eighth game under Bob Stoops.

Even though our fans were outnumbered at least 3:1 (and the Nebraska fans were a bit overconfident), we were loud and proud and cheered our team on to it's 7th Big 12 Championship! (I forgot my camera, so these are all iPhone pics)

And finally, apparently one Sooner fan thought the theme of the night was New Year's Eve and chose to wear a sparkly jacket and the shortest, tightest dress I've ever seen at a football game. I bet she was wishing for a champagne toast to celebrate the win!

Still no movement (and, honestly, it's kinda starting to freak me out that I haven't felt anything). Maybe the little booger will move this weekend with all the excitement of attending it's very first Big XII championship game?? We'll see.

odds and ends.

So, you guys know that I've been a little less than enthusiastic about sitting down and putting together a coherent blog post lately. Well, here's my attempt at telling you what's been goin' on with me.

• A little over two weeks ago was OU/Texas {has it really been that long??}. And, it was by far one of the more fun times I've had in Dallas the first weekend in October {or third, or second ... but you get the idea}. Not only did my Sooners pull out the win, but we got to see tons of people and enjoy a little down time -- a rarity on such a crazy weekend.

• In some bad news somewhat connected with OU/Texas, Gus is having eye issues. On Thursday morning {before we hit the road for Dallas} when John was set to take the dogs to the vet, he noticed that Gus' right eye was red and weeping. So, he took him to the vet immediately. We called later and they said he'd be just fine. John picked up the pugs on Monday morning, and Gus had some eye drops we had to give him and we scheduled another appointment for Friday. Cue Friday -- the vet didn't like what he saw, which really freaked me out. We made an appointment with a veterinary opthamalogist {yep, they exist} for Monday and were sent home with several more drops and a salve to keep his eye lubricated. On Monday we met with the opthamalogist and she didn't seem as concerned. She gave us ANOTHER drop and an antibiotic and we're going back to see her tomorrow. The worst part about it is that some of the drops really sting and it breaks my heart to see him all squinty. :(

• Last weekend we drove to Tulsa for a wedding. The groom was one of J's pledge brothers, and we got to see tons of people we haven't seen in years! It was a beautiful wedding. And, the couple was off to Maui for their honeymoon {where we went almost four years ago} and I couldn't be more jealous. The weather there is great this time of year {and really, is there a bad time of year?}.

• This weekend we had some friends come in town for the OU game against Iowa State. It was their first football game in Norman since before they had their little girl, and we're glad they chose to stay with us again. And, my parents made the trek to Norman again -- a long and very tedious drive, but I'm so glad I got to see them!

•Today is my Mom's birthday! Happy birthday Mom, I'm glad you were in town this weekend so we could do a little celebrating together!

• And, last but certainly not least. I have a little news to share with my bloggy buddies: I'm pregnant. I was 11 weeks yesterday and have my second doctor's appointment this Thursday when we hope to hear our baby's heartbeat and maybe see the first glimpse of our newest family member! And, ps, if I haven't told you in person and you're having to find this out on the blog -- I'm so sorry! It's been so tough to keep the news in and I've been trying my best to tell everyone I can before doing any kind of announcement!

only the greatest football weekend of the year.

In just 24 hours, I'm hittin' the road for Dallas for what is usually one of the most fun weekends of the year. Yep, OU/texas!

Although Texas lost last week {what is their deal with UCLA??}, this game hasn't lost its luster. No matter what happens the week before or the week after, we Sooners know that the Longwhorns are going to play their best.

Now, somewhat less important than the game itself, is the clothes and the food.

If you've never been to the Texas State Fair, then you've never had a Fletcher's Corny Dog, or any of the amazing fried concoctions. Since the game is at 2:30 this year {thank you, football scheduling gods, for giving us a little extra time before the game}, we'll have plenty of time to hang out by Big Tex and sample just about anything our little hearts desire.

I got a dress at a boutique in Norman a couple weeks ago that I was saving for OU/texas. Although I don't have a pic of it, you can rest assured it's the perfect shade of crimson and it's, of course, cute. The big question is whether or not to jump on the bandwagon and wear boots with it? What do you think?

I'm sure you guys have been not at all worried wondering where I disappeared to, huh?

I can assure you, I'm fine, just busy and not at all finding time in the evenings to blog. Sorry!

Last weekend we had tons of family in town for a big football game against Florida State {thankfully we looked tons better than our season opener}. My brother {in Denver}, his father in law, his brother in law, my parents, my other brother {in Austin}, my aunt and uncle and cousin were all in Norman for a mini reunion of sorts. Although they were pretty much all here from Thursday to Sunday, I still didn't feel like we had enough time together!

Not only did we have tons of family in town, we also had a couple of friends staying out our house for the game. Needless to say, we were torn in many different directions -- always stressful, but it was beyond nice to have everyone together for something other than a holiday.

Then, my brother {in Austin} and my dad came back up for the Air Force game this weekend {too bad we looked more like the team that played Utah State, than the one that showed up against Florida State...}.

So, life has been super busy, but definitely good.

Hopefully I'll be back more frequently this week!

The brother-in-law has taken to counting down the days until the official start of college football {which starts on a Thursday night}.

OU opens the season on Saturday, September 4 against Utah State. 32 days from today.

Random Thursday

•I saw on Saturday that Cynthia Vincent was debuting her line for Target on Sunday. My plan was to hit up Tarjay the day it came out, but that just didn't happen. So, then on Wednesday, after a quick photoshoot, I wanted to check out the goods. Can you believe that in a little over 3 days that the entire section was pretty much picked over? {Yes...} Wow!

I was in luck, though, there was still a pair of the cute wedges left in my size, so I snagged 'em. I almost got the cute flats {like Christine} but they made my big toe look way too long {I've been sensitive to that ever since this guy called me out for having the longest big toe he'd ever seen...thanks for that, dude.}.

•More Target news -- Zac Posen for Target starts this Sunday. Uhh, two words: yes, please. Check out a sneak peak here.

•Congrats to Sam Bradford, Gerald McCoy and Trent Williams {all loyal Sooners} on being selected in the first round of the NFL draft tonight. Ahem, they went 1, 3 and 4.

•The OKC Thunder are in the playoffs and on Sunday I went with some friends to a new pub in OKC to watch the first game in their series with the Lakers. It's called RePUBlic Gastropub. The food was pretty good -- I had the pulled chicken melt with a serrano honey mustard sauce that was HOT. I think it's definitely worth going back to, but maybe not to watch a game -- or if that's the plan, we're definitely waiting a little longer so they can get the service kinks worked out. Anyway, my food was really good and B got the fish and chips, which looked bomb. If you're in the OKC area, check it out.

•Ok, this is super random, but if I were to have my rehearsal dinner all over again, I think I would have worn white {hello, the only time anyone can really wear white to any kind of wedding event is when you're the bride} -- I wore a plum velvet dress from Juicy that I still really love. Anyway, I was on Shopbop the other day and found the most gorg dress. And, even though I've been married for a while, I kinda wish I could go back in time and wear this dress -- or stay in the present and find a good reason to purchase it. Any ideas?

Game Day

Yesterday was OU v. Baylor in Norman.

My Dad and brother came up on Friday. We ordered {too much} pizza and watched the Yankees beat the Twins in extra innings. Good game, and a nice little walk-off homerun by Teixiera. {Yep, my sports knowledge spans more than just football.}

On Saturday we were a bit discombobulated. J, his dad and brother had a Sigma Chi House Corp. meeting at 10:30 {I know...don't they know gamedays are for gameday activities??}, so my fam and I hit the bookstore on campus.

Rumor had the weather was going to be a little less than favorable, so Jason {the brother} and I found a nice, soft fleece that we tried to push our dad into wearing for the game. {My dad had only brought a pullover and a windbreaker and their seats are in the upper deck. With winds like they were predicting and the possibility that the sunshine wouldn't last, we thought he might need an extra layer}. He insisted that he was "FINE!", but we didn't take no for an answer and purchased the fleece. {He never needed it and Jason ended up carrying it around the entire day...ha!}

We then proceeded to Hideaway {or Hideaways, as my Mom always says...} and met up with my Uncle John.

A couple of hours and a fab enchilada lunch later, we made our way to the stadium. Sam Bradford returned after 4 weeks out with a shoulder injury. It was great to have him back! The weather really held up for the game. I didn't need my 4th layer at all!

By the time we left the stadium, however, the weather had gotten considerably more chilly. But, all in all, we had a great day. A win is still a win, even if we had to settle for 4 field goals and Sammy B only had one TD pass {in the 4th quarter}.

Next weekend is OU/Texas {I'm sure you're ready to stop hearing about it...}. Although I'm not keeping my hopes up for a Sooner win, we'll have a great time with friends we don't get to see often enough! Plus, you can't beat a day at the State Fair with Big Tex welcoming everyone!

Shut-Out

We had a great weekend.

It was OU's second home game {vs. Tulsa} and much more of a challenge for our newly-appointed QB, Landry Jones {who might just have the best mustache in all of college football}.

I was a bit irritated with the bit of rain we had to endure pre-game, but it quickly abated and left us with a pretty nice day. Sunny with a nice breeze. Perfect fall football weather.

The game was pretty fun. It's not everyday you have a shut out and it's definitely not everyday you have a shut out against a team that averages 41 points per game. Yeah! And, it looks like our guy Landry might have another receiver to turn to! We may not have to worry about quadruple coverage afterall!

After the game we hit Campus Corner for a few celebratory beers, queso fries and more football!

Of course I forgot my camera, but just imagine us all in great spirits, celebrating a fabulous OU win and a fabulous USC loss! {I know, I'm not so much as celebrating that USC lost, as I am that we get to move up a little more in the polls.}

After all of OU's preseason misfortune, I'm really doing my best to not be like fans from other schools/conferences. It's not cool to get excitement out of others' misfortune. That's my motto for the '09-'10 football season, people. Maybe you should make it yours, too!

Good luck to our boys on their bye-week and then definitely when they head to South Beach to take on a much-improved/almost-scary Miami team! Boomer!!

No Comparison

The Sooners play their first "home" game against BYU this weekend, and while I'm very excited for football season to finally be starting, our first game should have been in Norman.

Can I tell you that this game is taking somewhere around 30 {thirty} million dollars from the city of Norman and all of the businesses around there. Since we deal with several Norman businesses, we've taken it upon ourselves to boycott the game in Arlington. Yes, it will probably be fun {but, not that fun} but that's not a good enough reason to take that kind of money from the town that gives you unending support. Who's with me??

On another note, I've seen many people trying to compare this game to OU/Texas. Seriously?? If you think playing BYU in Arlington at some billion-dollar stadium is the same as playing long-time rival Texas in Dallas at the State Fair is the same thing, then you're delusional. C'mon, people. You cannot say that those crazy Mormons are going to be giving you hell like the Horns will.

I'm a little bummed to be missing the first game of the season {and possibly the first showing of the always-anticipated intro video} but I'll be even more bummed if this game turns into some kind of campaign to move OU/Texas.

So, if you're headed to Arlington to cheer on the Sooners, please do so, and very loud. But, don't have too much fun and remember, there's no comparison to playing OU/Texas in Dallas at the state fair.
